At 2 years of age, hawks are mature enough to mate.

When the young hawks hatch, they are too weak to keep their heads up, let alone survive on their own. They depend on their parents for the first four weeks. The father hunts for the food, while the mother is the one to actually feed them. After the seventh week, the hawk parents start to ignore their offspring, and let them learn hunting skills on their own.

Female and male hawks mate for life. If one of the partners dies, however, they soon find another mate.
